Frequently Asked Questions
Vertigo & Vestibular Therapy is a specialized form of Physiotherapy designed to address vertigo, dizziness, and balance issues caused by vestibular system disorders. The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, manages coordination, stability, and orientation. This therapy, offered by trained Physiotherapists at our Burnaby clinics, focuses on treating conditions like Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) through targeted rehabilitation exercises, helping restore movement control and improve quality of life.
Our Physiotherapists provide Vestibular and Vertigo Therapy at both our Brentwood and Metrotown locations.
Yes, if you experience vertigo, dizziness, or balance problems, especially from BPPV. It's suitable for those seeking to enhance stability and coordination, particularly after positional changes trigger symptoms. A specialist assessment determines if this therapy fits your needs, making it ideal for managing chronic dizziness or post-injury balance challenges.
We have specific practitioners that are trained in Vertigo & Vestibular care. For a complete list, visit our Vertigo and Vestibular service page by clicking HERE.
Your initial appointment includes a detailed assessment by a Vestibular Physiotherapist, who will review your symptoms, medical history, and perform tests to identify vertigo causes, such as BPPV. Expect a personalized plan with exercises like gaze stabilization or canalith repositioning maneuvers, lasting 45-60 minutes, to set a foundation for your rehabilitation journey.
Vestibular therapy combines targeted exercises and hands-on techniques to address balance and dizziness issues. Common techniques include:
- Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers (Epley Maneuver): Used to treat BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) by repositioning crystals in the inner ear.
- Balance Training Exercises: Focused on improving stability and coordination.
- Gaze Stabilization Exercises: Designed to enhance eye movement control and reduce dizziness.
- Habituation Exercises: Gradual exposure to movements that trigger symptoms, helping to reduce sensitivity over time.
We require 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations will be charged to the patient at 50% of the appointment cost, and no shows will be charged to the patient at 100% of the appointment cost.
Please note that insurers, including ICBC, will not pay for late cancellation fees.

We will direct bill your insurance provider for your session within 1-2 business days of your appointment date. Sometimes, insurers do not pay in full, or they may refuse payment. In either of these cases, we will send you an email explaining what occurred (including an "explanation of benefits" directly from your insurer) so that you are aware. Your credit card on file will be charged for the remaining balance and a detailed receipt will be sent to you. This receipt can then be submitted to your insurer(s) who will reimburse you directly, if you are eligible for coverage.
We know that sometimes you may have coverage under two different plans and/or two different insurers. At this time, we only direct bill to your primary insurer, however, you are welcome to submit any remaining balances to any secondary insurer you may have. The only exception to this is if you have more than one plan with Pacific Blue Cross, as they will automatically process to your primary and secondary.
A deductible is an activation fee that some plans require patients to pay at the beginning the year. If you have questions about your deductible, be sure to contact your insurer!
Due to very strict privacy policy put in place by insurance companies, clinics don't have access to any information regarding your insurance plan (including your coverages or limits). You can review your policy documents or contact your insurer directly to confirm.
Yes, we are able to direct bill to most major insurers! If you have an open ICBC or WSBC claim, please note that we can't direct bill another insurer for treatment until that claim has resolved.
